Trees on footpath

Whenever and and where ever a tree is cut, for widening or modifying a road, there is lot of hue and cry on that.  Its a practice to plant trees along the footpath, to provide shade and to make the road beautiful. So, how can one allow cutting trees from the footpath ? .. and more over its about deforestation !

To manage the sins of cutting trees, authorities are planting tree saplings ..  on the footpath. They plant them, with lot of fanfare, right in the middle of the foot path. None of them visualise how the trees would survive, and live for at least a few years.  Once planted, no one turns up to take care of that plant.  Look at the pictures above. On planting, somebody put a thich shielding (iron mesh) around the plant. But.. the iron mesh is a garbage bin. People throw/ deposit all kinds of garbage into it. If this tree sapling grows up, its a miracle !

Exactly! Very few people care about the trees they plant. There is a popular joke about politicians inaugurating tree planting campaigns. All of them plant the tree on the same spot every year!

You might also want to check out a campaign called Adopt a tree - instead of plant a tree.
