These days, the middle and lower economic classes are suffering a lot. For them, it's very difficult to manage both ends meet. Price of all commodities have shot up substantially. Even the price of "Mathi" ( the cheapest fish) has gone by three fold, over the last three months. And now, suddenly, the authorities have hiked the electricity tariff rates too. It's too high for a commoner. What caused this? Who is at fault ? Experts say "Inflation" ! Inefficiency of the Goverment is a heavy burden on the people.
I've suggested to some of my people (as the Energy Conservation Society says it all) to combat higher Electricity bills by using a few simple methods/ systems. For most of us, the electricity consumption is mostly for lighting (and not for heating). Therefore, catch that need now.
The solutions I've suggested are :
1. Have only one light in a room. ( One room, one light) Remove all additional lights/bulbs. Remove the bulbs, whereever you can. Leave only one light in a room. This will ensure more economical use. If multiple lamps are available in a room, then you may try to use more than one , if not all of them (atleast the children would do that).
2. Use Compact Flourescent Lamps (CFL) only. Don't use the ordinary bulbs (incandescent lamps). The power rating of a CFL required is one fifth of the ordinary lamp . ( eg. If you use a 25 Watts bulb, replace it with a 5 W CFL). This is a major saving of power, without compromising on the lighting level.
3. Learn to switch-off. Switch off every lamp, and other appliances not required. Switch on whenever required, and switch off immediately after use/requirement.
4. Use solar panels to lightup a few lamps atleast.
The major problem in implenting the above is the "too high prices " of CFLs. How can I afford to buy five to six times more priced CFLs, for almost the same life. { Who said CFLs are long life lamps ? That's not right. They give only an equivalent life of the ordinary bulbs .}
What the Governement should do is :
1. Create more Awareness on Energy conservation
2. Produce and distribute CFLs at reasonable and affordable prices.
