Mercy killing of a Coconut Tree - Part1

I hope you remember my earlier posts on my beloved 'Muthu', the coconut tree. Muthu was suffering from an infection of "thanduthurappan vandu", and was sinking over the last few months. as suggested by the local experts, and having realised that 'Muthu' can't survive the infection, I decided to give her a mercy killing. Our local man, came last day (Wednesday) and cut her down.

Cloudy Coconut trees

The coconut trees in this part of the country, it looks, are in a problem. I find most of these trees are infected by some kind or the other diseases. Look at my neighbor tree and the cloudy backdrop.

A brutal murder ... continued

On August 15th, it happened. The murder ... the brutal muder in bright day light. Three men came with axe and ropes. they started from the top.. cutting off the organs.. the head first.. It was a slow process.. it took the whole of the moring hours. When I dared to look at her, it was like this ...  his head and half the trunk ... gone !

In another half an hour, almost all the trunk, but for a short ground part ..! !

See she is gone for ever ....  

The jack tree is watching.. alone.. his friend is gone .. for ever... who'll listen to his cries ..!

She'll never be back .. her body had been taken ... the next day... to a brick kiln .. where it will be incinerated. Oh God, how cruel are these men !

A brutal murder

On 14th August, I was just roaming round my hut. As usual, I was chatting with my tree friends around.  I was happy with my neighbor coconut tree..  and chat with her. See, how rich this coconut tree is. She is bearing huge bunches.. many ..

She roots up from my neighbor's plot. She has many plant friends around her.. so greenish.. in this city !

The trunk is so sturdy and thick.. she is a proud coconut tree.

She is so tall.. her head is heavy and green.. so lush green...

She has a Jack tree as her friend.. and she is so close by.. always happy and waving her leaves ..

I wish I call her 'the golden coconut tree' !

Trees on footpath

Whenever and and where ever a tree is cut, for widening or modifying a road, there is lot of hue and cry on that.  Its a practice to plant trees along the footpath, to provide shade and to make the road beautiful. So, how can one allow cutting trees from the footpath ? .. and more over its about deforestation !

To manage the sins of cutting trees, authorities are planting tree saplings ..  on the footpath. They plant them, with lot of fanfare, right in the middle of the foot path. None of them visualise how the trees would survive, and live for at least a few years.  Once planted, no one turns up to take care of that plant.  Look at the pictures above. On planting, somebody put a thich shielding (iron mesh) around the plant. But.. the iron mesh is a garbage bin. People throw/ deposit all kinds of garbage into it. If this tree sapling grows up, its a miracle !

I love this coconut tree ! It's dieing,  and I am helplessly watching it !! That's why I wish to share some pictures with you. Here are three of them, taken today morning.

Coconut trees : Terrorist attack

Yeah, today, I am again on Coconut trees.

I am sad ;   One of my three coconut trees is sinking. It's about to die. And its the youngest among the three !

I don't wish to write an essay on this. But I wish to show you a few snaps on the dying tree. 

The following are pictures of the decaying head of the tree.

You can see big holes drilled by the terrorists. I shall show them tomorrow. The terrorists are eating away the head of the tree.

Coconut trees in the City are in danger. I find the "head" of many of the trees are infected by some (?) decease.
